The Electrical Department of Universal College of Engineering and Technology is well equipped with laboratories for learning, testing and measurement facilities in the specialized areas. Basic Electrical laboratory is design to meet the need of the 1st year electrical training. This laboratory can be used to give the basic knowledge and skills needed in further electrical, electronics and automation engineering studies.

Signal and System

A signal as referred to in communication systems, signal processing, and electrical engineering “is a function that conveys information about the behavior or attributes of some phenomenon”. In the physical world, any quantity exhibiting variation in time or variation in space (such as an image) is potentially a signal that might provide information on the status of a physical system, or convey a message between observers.

Engineering disciplines such as electrical engineering have led the way in the design, study, and implementation of systems involving transmission, storage, and manipulation of information.

A system transforms input signals into output signals • a system is a function mapping input signals into output signals

Digital Electronics

Digital electronics, or digital (electronic) circuits, represent signals by discrete bands of analog levels, rather than by a continuous range. All levels within a band represent the same signal state. Relatively small changes to the analog signal levels due to manufacturing tolerance,signal attenuation or parasitic noise do not leave the discrete envelope, and as a result are ignored by signal state sensing circuitry.
In most cases the number of these states is two, and they are represented by two voltage bands: one near a reference value (typically termed as “ground” or zero volts), and the other a value near the supply voltage. These correspond to the “false” (“0”), and “true” (“1”), values of the Boolean domain, respectively.
Digital techniques are useful because it is easier to get an electronic device to switch into one of a number of known states than to accurately reproduce a continuous range of values.
Digital electronic circuits are usually made from large assemblies of logic gates, simple electronic representations of Boolean logic functions.


A microprocessor is a computer processor that incorporates the functions of a computer’s central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC) or at most a few integrated circuits. The microprocessor is a multipurpose, programmable device that accepts digital data as input, processes it according to instructions stored in its memory, and provides results as output. It is an example of sequential digital logic, as it has internal memory. Microprocessors operate on numbers and symbols represented in the binary numeral system.
